NCADC Campaign alert: Save Marie and Family from Deportation
Mauritian born, Marie Batour and her three children, came to Britain in 2004 as a dependant of her husband who was on a student visa. Marie had suffered severe domestic abuse for many years from her husband and had been to police in Mauritius several times but they were not interested in protecting her as her husband always paid them off to prevent it going to court. She has signed witness statements from her friends which were counter stamped by the Prime Minister of Mauritius. When she lived in Britain the violence continued and she then discovered evidence of her husband's pedophilia. For her and her children's safety she left her husband in 2008 and applied for Indefinite Leave to Remain in her own right as a spouse outside the usual immigration rules. However, she was advised by the Home Office that she had a good case for asylum and that was a better route to go down in order to get her leave to remain in Britain. In 2008 her asylum case was refused and now Marie is campaigning to remain in the UK to protect her and her family's safety.

Child refugees harmed by 'cruel' detention system
More than half the children caught up in Britain's asylum system have suffered permanent psychological harm, one of the most extensive investigations into the treatment of refugee families has found. Of the 141 families and children interviewed in the study, 74 children were reported to have been psychologically harmed as a result of being detained. The report, State Sponsored Cruelty, claims that many of the children witnessed violence in detention centres or were seriously disturbed after dawn raids carried out by officers working for the UK Border Agency (UKBA).
