Two deaths in three days, in UK Immigration Estate

Campsfield IRC - Death of John Yohona
A man believed to be John Yohona, from Moldova, who was about to be deported killed himself on Tuesday morning 2nd August, at a privately run detention centre, according to fellow inmates. A fellow detainee, who refused to give his name, said the man had been hours away from being deported and had become very anxious. "When they put him in the room they were putting pressure on him saying he had no right to stay in this country. He was normally a very quiet person but the pressure is too much for people in here."

Inmates at Campsfield House IRC, which holds 200 asylum seekers and foreign prisoners, have staged a number of protests in the past over conditions at the centre and the policy of indefinite detention and forced returns. Last year about half of detainees went on hunger strike in protest against their treatment and the forced deportation of asylum seekers. In 2005 Kurdish teenager, Ramazan Kumluca, killed himself after spending more than four months in Campsfield.

Home Office asked to comment, confirmed the death at Campsfield IRC, with an even curter response, than the one they gave for the death in Colnbrook.

Colnbrook IRC - Death of Mr. Dalrypic
A male detainee belived to be a Mr. Dalrypic from Arizona U.S.A, being held in Colnbrook IRC died on Sunday morning, 31st July. At present 'Freemovement' do not have the name/nationality of the deceased. Detainees we have been in contact with have been too distressed to speak coherently.

This is the second death in Colnbrook in 29 days, Muhammed Shuket died in Colnbrook IRC on the 2nd July.

If you have any factual knowledge of the incident, please get back to 'Freemovement'. If you have contact with the family of the deceased also ask them to get in touch. "Freemovement' can refer them to 'INQUEST' for free independent legal help.

When asked the Home Office as ever had as little as possible to say.

A UK Border Agency spokesperson said: "A 35-year-old male being held at Colnbrook Immigration Removal Centre died on the morning of July 31. The UK Border Agency is in the process of contacting his family and our sympathies are with them at this time. The police and Prisons and Probation Ombudsman are investigating the matter, as is the norm, and we are cooperating fully with their investigations."
