Cornelius Lansana - Bounced Back again!

Cornelius only spent four hours in Sierra Leone on Friday before being returned to the UK. As was stated previously, Sierra Leone do not accept he is a citizen of Sierra Leone and no amount of UKBA issuing European Travel Documents for Cornelius is going to make him a citizen. It is time for UKBA to realize that he is unremovable and should be released from detention and give some form of leave to remain.

Beggars Belief

An 8th attempt to remove C L on Friday to Sierra Leone, failed as Sierra Leone bounced him straight back, saying he was not a national of Sierra Leone. Same thing happened six weeks ago. Before each removal ETDs were obtained from the Sierra Leone embassy, though what information UKBA gave the Embassy on C L, beggars belief as his asylum claim was mainly refused on basis that UKBA did not believe he was a national of Sierra Leone.

Well, he arrived back in the UK last Saturday and was immediately detained:

UKBA: Specific Statement of Reasons

You are specifically considered a person who is an illegal entrant because you were lawfully removed to Sierra Leone yesterday, however the authorities in that country refused to grant you permission to enter and your were returned to the UK. You arrived at Heathrow Terminal 1 Today (Saturday 19th). Nationals of Sierra Leone require a visa to enter the UK but you do not hold a visa, therefore you have entered the UK without the leave of an Immigration officer. I therefore consider that you are an Illegal Entrant: Entry Without Leave

Eighth Attempt to Remove Cornelius Lansana

Cornelius Lansana a national of Sierra Leone and resident in the UK since 2002, is currently in detention @ Dover IRC and due to be forcibly removed from the UK on BMI flight - BD 967 on Friday 18th November @ 13:15 to Sierra Leone.

This will be the eighth attempt to remove Cornelius. The fifth attempt on Wednesday 8th June 2011 failed, Immigration officials in Sierra Leone, refused him entry and he was brought back to the UK. The sixth attempt on Friday 4th November failed through UKBA admin error. Sixth attempt failed because no escorts were available to take him to the airport

My name is Cornelius Lansana, Asylum Seeker from Sierra Leone. I fled Sierra Leone in 2001 due to 1999 - 2002 war. I was persecuted and tortured on several occasions by the rebels (Revolutionary Front) due to my role as an informant. On many occasions my village was subjected to attack. The more serious one occurred when my house was destroyed and all valuable severed and all my family killed and I was fortunate to have escaped and I fled the country.

I arrived in the UK on April 2002 and claimed asylum on arrival. This was refused on April 2002 and subsequent appeal dismissed on September 2002. Further submissions in 2009/10 and 2011 were all rejected.

On 21/1/11, I attended on appointment by UKBA for consideration of my immigration matter at the Legacy Service Centre, Lunar House, Croydon. No interview whatsoever was conducted. I was informed that I am under arrest and would be detained. I was taken to Tinsley House IRC the same day. On 20/2/11 I was transferred to Haslar IRC. On 27/2/11 to Colnbrook IRC and on 1/3/11 back to Haslar IRC. On 21/3/11 I was held at Harmondsworth IRC, where I am presently, after two failed attempts to remove me from UK.

On 21/3/11 a removal direction was placed by UKBA. I was driven from Haslar IRC by G4S to Terminal 4 holding room. G4S asked me if I would like to board flight and I said no because my life will be in danger if returned to Sierra Leone. G4S cancelled the flight and informed me they will arrange escort for another removal direction. I was held at Harmondsworth IRC. Another removal direction was placed on 26/3/11 without my notice and it did not happen due to escort failure. The third removal direction is now reset from UK by flight BD 967 to Sierra Leone at 13.15 on 3/4/11.

Sierra Leone is Failed state: A state having little or no governance, endemic corruption, profiteering by ruling elites, very poor Human Rights, the government cannot/will not protect the population from others or itself, massive internal conflict, forced internal/external displacement,

I cannot return to Sierra Leone for fear of being target and killed. My life will be in danger if deported back to Sierra Leone. I have no family to return to and I have lost touch with everyone back home. In 2004 I received death threat letter sent from Sierra Leone through a friend here in the UK. Also in same 2004, I was declared wanted by a wanted notice from Sierra Leone because of my role as an informant.

Due to the length of time in the UK, I have established a private life through friends and voluntary work colleagues. I am a voluntary church reader in my local church and I help out to clean and organise the church services. I have a cordial good relationship with the church members and the entire community. I have no history of criminal record since living in the UK.

I have my education at Southwark College to improve my knowledge and skills. I studied numeracy and literacy, computer skills and possessed IELTS certificate (band 6.0) and NVQ2 (National Vocational Qualification Level 2) in Health and Social Care. My ambition is to become a qualified carer.

I have contributed to the UK society since my asylum in 2002.

I have numerous medical problems such as breathing problems, constant chest pains and depression - all of which I sustained during my torture and aggravated by my current situation.

Please lobby the Home Secretary, the Deputy Prime to stay the removal also BMI asking them to refuse to carry me.

Thanks for your support - Cornelius Lansana.
