Noushin Babar Belongs to Manchester !

Noushin Babar, a national of Pakistan and long time resident of Manchester/London (10 years). Is currently detained in Yarl's Wood IRC. And due to be forcibly removed from the UK on Qatar Airways Flight QR076 from Gatwick to Doha at 09.30hrs on Wednesday 26th January 2011 connecting with Flight QR332 to Lahore.

Noushin, who is 27, came to the UK in August 2000 with her husband and he claimed asylum with her as a dependant. However, before a decision was made she was divorced and she lost contact with her husband so she didn't find out that she had been refused until 2006 when she contacted the Home Office.

At this point, Noushin was too frightened to go back to Pakistan as her husband had threatened to kill her She then had an Islamic marriage to her second husband and submitted a fresh claim for asylum to the Home Office as her circumstances had changed but then he began abusing her and was very violent so she was forced to flee the marital home in London and to live in Manchester.

There, with help and support from the Boaz Trust, MRSN and WAST she got a roof over her head and emotional support and found a new solicitor.

Noushin then was able to submit a new asylum claim in her own right as a single woman. She was advised to go down to Croydon to claim asylum, which she did on Friday, October 1st, 2010. She had her screening interview, was given an ARC card and was told to report back the following Monday to find out where she was to be temporarily rehoused.

However, when she returned, she was made to wait all day but at 5pm was sent straight to Yarl's Wood IRC. Since then her original application for asylum has been considered at all stages and refused.

Her lawyers have now submitted further representations but these have yet to be considered by the Home Office, even though they have served Removal Directions on Noushin.

Pakistan is a Failed state: A state having little or no governance, endemic corruption, profiteering by ruling elites, very poor Human Rights, the government cannot/will not protect the population from others or itself, massive internal conflict, forced internal/external displacement, institutionalised political exclusion of significant numbers of the population, progressive deterioration of welfare infrastructure (hospitals, clinics, doctors, nurses) not adequate to meet health, needs, progressive economic decline of the country as a whole as measured by per capita income, debt, severe child mortality rates, poverty levels.

Noushin fears for her life if she is returned to Pakistan because of threats issued there by members of her ex-husband's family. In addition, she and her supporters point out, her life for the past ten years has been in the UK and this is where she must stay.
